In the wake of King Charles’ recent cancer diagnosis, Queen Camilla has expressed optimism about her husband’s well-being, stating that he is “doing extremely well under the circumstances”.

While attending a royal engagement at Salisbury Cathedral on Thursday, February 8, Camilla conveyed the King’s gratitude for the overwhelming support from the public, expressing that he was “very touched” by the numerous messages of encouragement from the public.

King Charles, currently undergoing his initial cancer treatment, has chosen to spend his time at Sandringham, as announced by Buckingham Palace earlier this week.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the Queen, fulfilling her royal duties at Salisbury Cathedral, met with medical professionals, including those from Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

During the engagement, critical care paramedic Ben Abbott conveyed his well wishes to the Queen, expressing sadness over the King’s diagnosis

“I do hope His Majesty is doing well Ma’am, we’re all really sad to hear the news,” Abbott said.

Camilla replied: “Well he’s doing extremely well under the circumstances, he’s very touched by all the letters and the messages the public have been sending from everywhere – that’s very cheering.”

In light of King Charles’ health situation, Prince William has resumed his royal duties, taking on a more prominent role after a period of prioritising family responsibilities.

Prince William had temporarily withdrawn from royal engagements to support his wife, Princess Catherine, and their three children, during her planned abdominal surgery.

While Catherine recovered, King Charles underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate where subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer.

William returned to public duties on Wednesday, February 7, hosting an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. The ceremony saw him awarding honours such as CBEs, OBEs, and MBEs to deserving recipients. Later in the day, he attended a gala fundraising dinner for London’s Air Ambulance Charity.

William broke his silence regarding his father’s diagnosis and his wife’s ongoing recovery while delivering a speech at the gala.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you also for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all,” he told those gathered.

“It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather ‘medical’ focus, so I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!” he later joked.

While King Charles undergoes treatment and with Catherine anticipated to be absent until after Easter, the responsibility of representing the Monarchy is likely to rest on the shoulders of the remaining members of the royal family, with Prince William and Queen Camilla expected to play prominent roles.
