It has been a challenging year for Sir Elton John, but the music legend has battled his health woes with an admirable sense of humour. However, the Crocodile Rock singer now has revealed the heartbreaking reason why this latest health battle will stop him from returning to the studio.

Speaking to Good Morning America about his new Disney+ documentary Never Too Late, Sir Elton shared that he has been “blind” in his left eye for four months due to a severe infection, but he remains determined to stay active.

He told viewers that he spent the summer battling an infection and while he has “hope” he will be able to see properly again eventually, he is currently unable to work on new music because of his limited vision.

“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France,” he said.

“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know.”

The 77 year old British icon also admitted admitted he was “floored” by the situation but was working with those helping him to get better.

“We’re taking initiative to try and get it better,” he said.

“But at the moment, that’s really what I’m concentrating on.

“It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen.

“It kinda floored me, and I can’t see anything.

“I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”

Sir Elton had previously revealed the severity of his condition on social media, describing how the infection had left him with “only limited vision.” He assured fans that, while the healing process was slow, he was optimistic about regaining his sight.

“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he explained at the time.

“I am healing but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.

“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

In a moving display of support, fans flooded social media with heartfelt best wishes for the beloved musician’s speedy recovery.
