The Country Women’s Association is renowned Australia wide for their timeless cookbooks. Handed down through generations, every CWA cookbook is a classic piece of Australian literature, often kept in a very safe place in the home of every owner. My mother’s CWA cookbook was once her mothers, and was my great grandmothers before that.

Classic CWA recipes fill the pages, with slight alternations noted in the margins; “Use an extra tablespoon of butter”, “add a little honey”. The books’ life has been long, and it’s been well-loved in our family. The spine of the little blue book is now tearing away, exposing the bind, as the precious recipes remain intact.

CWA, knowing the value of their generation-defying recipes, have now released a new cookbook. Thrifty Cooking is filled with 170 mouthwateringly delightful recipes, as well as countless hints and tips, compiled by the CWA of Victoria, for your use at home.

Described on the blurb as a “Budget-friendly, tasty, time-saving, tried and tested recipes for every Australian household”, this new book boasts “the collected wisdom of Country Women’s Association of Victoria” to “help create delicious meals your family will love and show you how to make the most of every grocery item in your pantry”.

“Crammed full of money-saving tips; easy, tasty recipes and fresh food ideas family dinners, snacks, lunch box fillers – as well as economical ways to cook generously for a crowd.

“There are tips for how to use up leftovers so no food is wasted, clever ways to fix common problems in the kitchen, and brilliant ideas for making the most of that glut of seasonal fruit or veg – so cheap and delicious in season, and so easy to preserve, freeze or store.

“Thrifty Cooking will revolutionise the way you shop, cook and eat – and shares the secrets of eating well and saving money on your food budget.”

What a wrap! Now, here’s the iconic CWA scone recipe to really sell you on this gorgeous new CWA cookbook.
