Beloved royal, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, has always held a special place in the hearts of Aussies.

Her elegance, charm, and genuine warmth have endeared her to the nation, making her the country’s favourite royal.

Now, in a recent interview, Crown Princess Mary’s nephew, Count Nikolai of Monpezat, reveals some priceless words of wisdom he received from his aunt before embarking on a six-month adventure Down Under, revealing Mary provided him with a “long list” of advice.

“She gave me a long list, an itinerary of what to do and what not to do, I can’t remember it now but I have it at home,” he told the Daily Telegraph

“Basic ‘survival skills’, I would say clap your boots before putting them on, stuff like that, flush the toilet before you use it. I do not (want a snake or spider).”

Nikolai also spoke of Mary’s continued love for Australians despite making Denmark her home.

“I would say she has adopted Denmark and the Danish way a lot but you can tell that she loves Australia,” Nikolai said.

“I don’t want to put words into her mouth but she goes back every so often and I think she just enjoy every bit of it. The connection I can feel from my cousins, who are raised Danish but definitely have that Aussie connection too.”

One such occasion in which the Tassie-born Princess returned to home soil was in December 2022 when reports emerged that the Danish Royal Family packed their bags for a special Aussie-style Christmas.

The welcomed news was announced by the Danish royal house in a statement released on Tuesday, November 22.

“In December, the Crown Prince family will travel on a private Christmas holiday in Australia to celebrate the holiday together with HRH the Crown Princess’s family,” the palace said at the time.

“It has been five years since the Crown Prince couple together with their four children last visited the Crown Princess’s homeland.”

Prior to their 2022 visit, Mary and her family spent Christmas in Australia back in 2017.

During their visit, the Royals visited a number of tourist hotspots around Western Australia such as the Margaret River Chocolate Company in the Swan Valley, and even surprised locals by having a quick stop over at an IGA in Gnowangerup, South-East of Perth.

The 51-year-old royal visited a number of high-end retail stores in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton alongside her friend and former bridesmaid Amber Petty.

A Melbourne retail worker told 7 News that she and a colleague “just kind of let it go because we thought that’s not possible!” after spotting Mary.

“I said to my colleague, ‘hmm, that looks like Princess Mary, doesn’t she look like Princess Mary?’ and my colleague looked over and said ‘yeah, that does actually’,” she said.

Danish magazine Billed Bladet contacted the Danish royal family who confirmed Mary’s low-key visit to Australia.
