Famed musicians Rod Stewart, 77, and Elvis Costello, 67, have engaged in quite the entertaining Twitter war after it was alleged that Costello made scathing comments regarding Stewart’s recent Platinum Jubilee concert performance on June 4, 2022.

According to the Daily Mail, Costello allegedly made a number of bitter remarks regarding Stewart’s song choice of Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ for the esteemed performance during one of his own concerts in Glasgow.

Costello reportedly told the audience, “I mean, I know you all love him and he’s one of yours and everything, but Rod. What the fuck?”

“I must say, listen we all have bad nights vocally, but for fuck’s sake, Sweet fucking Caroline? Are you fucking kidding me?” Costello reportedly said.

Costello is alleged to have continued with his rant, asking the crowd, “How is it that nobody suggested Rod sing You Wear It Well?”.

Meanwhile, Stewart took to Twitter after becoming aware of the comments to address Costello, making a seemingly sarcastic apology for his apparent ‘underwhelming’ Jubilee performance.

“Dear Elvis @elviscostello, yes my voice was rough cos of Covid. I apologise, I thought it better to make an appearance than let everyone down so sorry,” he wrote.

“By the way, where’s your hair gone mate????? Sir Rod.”

Extinguishing the fire, Costello replied to Stewart in a playful tone, choosing not to fire back.

“Dear Lord Stewart. You know I love you. Think the Queen would have loved You Wear It Well or even Hot Legs,” Costello wrote.

“As to gigs, I had a stinker the other night in Liverpool. They come and go, like hair, which I keep sewn in my hat.

“Up The Republic. Elvis O.rrible B.loody E.erbet.”

During a recent interview on ITV’s Loose Women panel show, Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster revealed that it was the Queen that “asked him to sing Sweet Caroline”.

“The BBC said, ‘Rod we need you to sing Sweet Caroline it’s the Queen’s favourite you have to sing it’,” she said.

“So he didn’t have much of a choice.”

Lancaster also revealed that Stewart almost had to forgo his Platinum Jubilee performance after the singer lost his voice.

“He was so nervous leading up to it. He spent three weeks in Las Vegas and caught Covid just after the last show,” she revealed.

“He came home and it was past the 10-day period of being contagious but he’d lost his voice.

“So during the soundcheck on Wednesday he wore a mask as a precaution but he had no voice.

“He thought, ‘How long can I leave it?'”
