Former Olympian Lisa Curry has sparked inspiration with her latest social media post, in which she shared her profound insight on finding hope amidst the tumultuous and all-consuming nature of grief.

The grieving process has been a difficult journey for the 60-year-old, who suffered the loss of her 33-year-old daughter Jaimi in 2020 after a prolonged health battle. Sadly, the pain didn’t end there as her cherished mother Pat passed away less than two years later.

Curry frequently shares her experiences coping with grief while keeping the memory of those she’s lost alive on her social media.

In one of her latest posts, Curry opened up about the importance of persevering through personal anguish to support others.

“Get up, dress up, show up and do what you need to do no matter how hard it is,” she wrote.

“Today I spoke at the Nurses & Midwives Wellness Conference in Melbourne.

“My topic was Demonstrating Hope – on strength and navigating through crisis.

“A very difficult topic for me but each time I speak it does get a tiny bit easier. It’s still hard, and there were plenty of tears, but I knew I was safe in this conference and could be myself.

“I know I am not alone in walking this unimaginable path. Grief is a process we have to go through but over time healing starts to take place. At least I can laugh again. But I’m exhausted and my body aches. I feel like I’m in a hole and I just can’t get out. But each day the brave face goes on and I keep going.

“I have to remind myself: the crack is where the light starts to shine through.

“You don’t know how strong you are until that’s the only choice you have.

“A huge thank you to each and every nurse. You are so appreciated. You are living your life to help save others.

“When we are exhausted, overwhelmed, and our battery is at 1%. Take a breath. Look after your SELF Make the healthy choices. Everything will be ok.”

Fans of Curry were deeply moved and took to social media to express their gratitude for her poignant message about coping with grief.

“Thank you Lisa. We live almost parallel lives. I have a different grief (parental alienation). Your strength radiates out,” one person wrote.

“Thanks for all you do to help others.”

“Thank you for saying the words I cannot find to say myself. I feel your pain your struggles.”

“I draw a lot of my strength from you as I’m going through my journey of grief,” commented another.

“I really needed this today! Thank you Lisa.”

Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Curry has been open about the toll her passing has taken on her own health and has since written her own book about life, love and loss.

In an interview with The Morning Show on December 1, 2021, Curry tried to put on a brave face as hosts praised Curry for her incredible strength while asking her how she was coping with the loss of her daughter. Curry was able to remain composed for a short time before bursting into tears.

“It’s been really really hard,” Curry admitted.

“People have been really supportive and I think what I’ve learnt most is that every second person on the street is going through the same thing so it’s really important to be empathetic of people and be kind to people.”
