The pain that has been felt after losing legendary Australian entertainer, Bert Newton, hits just as hard today as it did when the tragic news broke that ‘Moonface’ had died.

Nowhere has that pain and sorrow been felt more than by his family and those who were close to him. Now, following the one-year anniversary of Bert’s passing, his daughter has delivered a touching tribute to her late father.

Lauren Newton took to social media on Sunday, October 30 to reflect on the “happy memories” she shared with her beloved father.

“I can’t believe it has been a year since we said goodbye. I treasure these happy memories,” she captioned her post.

Bert’s adoring fans were quick to share their own treasured memories of the late entertainment heavyweight while sending “lots of love” to the Newton family on what was surely a difficult day.

“Dear dear Bert….what joy and laughter he brought to us,” one fan wrote.

“I can’t believe it either. Beautiful Bert. I’ve been thinking of you all day.”

“Thoughts with you Lauren and your lovely family. Bert was one in a million. He will always be remembered with much love,” another shared.

“Memories are yours forever no one can ever take them from you.”

“Bless you Bert always in our hearts Thank you for always giving us your public excellence in all your honesty kindness and performances and now you will keep your loved ones close and safe as you watch over them.”

“Sending lots of love to you & your family. I can’t believe it’s been a year.”

Lauren’s mother and Bert’s wife, Patti Newton, also marked the sorrowful day with a post to Instagram where she penned a heartfelt message to her “darling Bert”.

“On this day one year ago I lost the love of my life,” Patti wrote.

“Rest In Peace my darling Bert x.”

Bert passed away on October 30, 2021 at age 83 after a long health battle and was undergoing palliative care at a private clinic in Melbourne when he died. The Australian public and entertainment world mourned the entertainment legend during a state funeral in mid-November.

Born in 1938,  Albert Watson Newton quickly discovered his love of entertainment at a young age with his radio debut on 3XY at age 11. He was a full-time announcer at the Melbourne station by the time he was 15. From the early 1960s to the late 1990s he was the face of a number of popular TV shows, including The Late Show, In Melbourne Tonight, The Don Lane Show, New Faces, Ford Superquiz, The Bert Newton Show, and Tonight with Bert Newton.
