Cheeky new TV ad reveals ‘real reason’ Prince Harry left the royal family

Domino's Pizza has launched a cheeky new ad campaign poking fun at the royal family.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family and fled to North America earlier this year, there has been endless speculation about the many reasons for their separation, from unfounded claims that Meghan felt overshadowed by her sister-in-law Catherine, to Harry wanting to protect baby Archie’s privacy, making headlines.

And it’s not just headlines that their rumoured feud has inspired, as Domino’s Pizza has now launched a cheeky new ad campaign, which pokes fun at the royal family and claims to reveal the ‘real reason’ behind Prince Harry’s split from his grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen.

You can forget rumours of nasty spats and rows over bridesmaid dresses though, as the fallout is apparently all down to the fact that the two parties couldn’t decide between a supreme or pepperoni pizza.

The tongue-in-cheek campaign starts off with Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth II sitting in front of a fireplace sharing a slice of pizza.

“It’s so good to see you again Harry,” the Queen says, as fancy music plays in the background. “You too, granny,” Harry replies.

The Queen continues: “I’m actually glad we split… whoever thought you could combine a supreme and pepperoni.”

The voiceover then declares: “Nothing brings people together like a Domino’s Half ‘n’ Half.”

The ad is meant to promote that Domino’s has ‘said Harryverderci’ to the $2 surcharge on split pizzas. That’s right, you can now split any large pizza for free!

Domino’s Allan Collins, chief marketing officer across Australia and New Zealand, said the Half ‘n’ Half option is good for when you’re stuck on what to get or are in company with fussy eaters, adding Domino’s decision to remove the surcharge is a win-win.

“Pizza is the perfect sharing meal — there’s something for everyone and more than enough to go around,” he says. “But sometimes sharing can be hard when you’ve got different dietary or taste preferences, or simply can’t agree on a pizza.”

Allan continues: “Sharing a pizza with a vegetarian but hankering for some pepperoni? Partner likes pineapple on their pizza, but don’t think fruit belongs on a savoury dish? Now, you can both receive the ‘royal treatment’ and get exactly what you want — with no extra charge to split a Domino’s Half ‘n’ Half pizza.”

And there’s no shortage on options with 378 potential Half ‘n’ Half combos. If you’re stuck for inspiration, the top five most popular Half ‘n’ Half combinations are BBQ Meatlovers and Hawaiian; Hawaiian and Supreme; NY Big Cheese and NY Big Pepperoni; Hawaiian and Pepperoni; and NY Big Ham & Pepperoni and NY Big Pepperoni. No surcharge is available for a limited time only and does not include vegan cheese pizzas.

And the Queen apparently doesn’t mind being impersonated — I mean who could forget the moment James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) escorted the 94-year-old monarch to the London 2012 Olympic games? If you remember correctly, the scene saw James picking up Her Majesty from Buckingham Palace before parachuting into the Olympics Stadium alongside her — of course, it wasn’t actually the Queen parachuting, but a stunt double.
