Airfare aggregator Skyscanner has crunched the numbers and identified the cheapest months of the year for Australians to fly to some of the world’s most exciting cities.
In a new post on social media yesterday, the site found Aussies eager to kick off their year with a good deal should look at Auckland in January, wit0h the ‘City of Sails’ an ideal setting off point for a road trip, a coach tour or a cruise around the rest of New Zealand.

Once February hits, a range of farther afield cities open up, with the shortest month of the year unlocking great opportunities for northern hemisphere skiing and winter action. Skyscanner found Rome, Dublin and Amsterdam represented the best value in February.
Elsewhere, Dubai presents a mild climate in February and makes for an excellent time to visit the Middle East metropolis before the weather begins to warm up for summer, while Bali was also well primed to capture Australians eager to make the most of the Indonesian hotspot after most of the holiday crowds had departed.
For a warmer European experience, great airfare deals were also handpicked by Skyscanner to the same cities in May and June, while August in Dubai will also represent great value, if you can handle some stifling temperatures outdoors.
For travellers eager to venture out in March, Skyscanner’s data crunchers found excellent value on airfares to New York City and Singapore – two vast cities at the peak of their respective region’s economic powers.
Later in the year, the tail end of cherry blossom season in Tokyo can make for an excellent opportunity for travellers looking to make their dollar stretch further in the air. The famous season peaks in March and April, but this is when the crowds are at the heaviest, making May a much quieter time to enjoy what’s left of the blossoms for the year.
