While camping and caravanning remain hugely popular among Aussie holidaymakers, they’re also now increasingly popular choices for international visitors.

New data from Tourism Research Australia revealed 377,000 international caravan and camping visitors came to Australia for the year ending March 2019, making a 7 per cent increase from the previous year.

Millennials are having a significant impact on the market, with 157,000 international visitors aged 20 to 29 choosing caravanning and camping in Australia, followed by 127,000 visitors aged 30 to 54.

Meanwhile, more Baby Boomers are hitting the road in their caravan or campervans than ever before, with 73,000 international visitors coming to Australia.

The most popular state among international holidaymakers was Queensland, with 132,000 visitors spending 1.6 million nights in the sunshine state.

New South Wales attracted 129,000 international visitors, while 90,000 caravan and camping visitors travelled to Victoria, marking a 5 per cent increase from the previous year.

The data also revealed international visitors spent a total of 4.9 million nights in Australia, a 2 per cent decrease from the previous year.
