American actress and activist Susan Sarandon has appealed to her 839,000 Instagram followers to support a cause she holds very near and dear to her heart: elephants. 

The star took to social media to champion elephants while also revealing that she had fostered an elephant named Mbegu at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage in Kenya.

She told her followers that they could also foster an elephant of their own in order to support the orphanage, which has been rescuing and rehabilitating elephants for 40 years. 

The 70-year-old is not only known for her on-screen career, she is also a social and political activist for a variety of causes. 

A day ago, Sarandon posted a video of elephants saying “hello” and once again encouraged her followers to “help save this endangered language”.

Elephants have been poached for years over their ivory tusks. It’s been estimated that Kenya has around 38,000 elephants left with statistics from 2013 showing more than 300 elephants were lost each year to poaching.
