In a move that has left Royal enthusiasts and die-hard fans of Netflix’s hit series, The Crown on the edge of their seats, the streaming giant has shared an exciting sneak peek into the storyline of the upcoming sixth season of the popular series.
The Crown is one of Netflix’s most praised original series, telling the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the British royal family with the sixth and final season set to deliver the same mix of drama, grandeur, and royal intrigue, along with an exciting royal wedding.
The grand finale to the drama series will arrive later this year, and Netflix has revealed via their social media accounts that the wedding of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2005 will be a key storyline.
Fans of The Crown flooded social media in anticipation of the final season.
Set between 1997 and the early 2000s, season six will also cover the budding romance of a young Prince William and his future wife, Kate Middleton.
It will also include the tragic passing of Diana, Princess of Wales in Paris in August 1997.
The filming of the accident which so tragically took the lives of Princess Diana and her partner, Dodi Al Fayed has been recreated with the utmost respect and sensitivity, according to the production team.
Talking to Deadline, showrunner Peter Morgan reassured the public that the crash itself would not be depicted on screen. Instead, it’ll simply portray what occurred before and after the accident.
During a recent panel discussion at the Edinburgh TV Festival, the executive producer of the series, Suzanne Mackie, revealed the creative team is having ” a very, very careful, long, long, long conversation” about how to approach Diana’s passing.
“The show might be big and noisy, but we’re not,” she said.
“We’re thoughtful people and we’re sensitive people.
“And so there was a very, very careful, long, long, long conversation about how we do it – and I hope, you know, the audience will judge it in the end, but I think it’s been delicately, thoughtfully recreated.”
Season six will be the only season that was filmed after the death of the Queen. No release date has been announced, however, stay tuned for all the royal drama coming to your screens soon.
