Crown Princess Mary celebrated her 48th birthday on Wednesday and the Danish royal family released a striking new portrait of the mother-of-four to mark the special occasion.
The official portrait shows Mary smiling widely at the camera, with her dark brown locks tucked behind one ear. She is wearing a sophisticated navy blue wrap dress for the commemorative shot, as well as an eye-catching pair of turquoise drop earrings.
A message on the Det Danske Kongehus official Instagram page on Wednesday read: “Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess has a birthday and is now 48 years old.”

Royal followers also shared their birthday wishes for the princess, who will one day be queen of Denmark. One wrote: “Happy birthday your Royal Highness! Sending best wishes from Tasmania.”
Another commented: “Before the wedding in 2004, Mary Elizabeth Donaldson said: “I say yes to Frederick with all my heart” – and this has NEVER been in doubt! Thank you for coming here and enriching Frederik and our little Denmark, beautiful Mary.”

Earlier this year, Princess Mary marked the special occasion of her twins’ birthday with some less official looking portraits. The Hobart-born royal, who married the heir to the Danish throne Crown Prince Frederik in 2004, shared two adorable photos of the couple’s youngest children Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
One of the photographs shows the twins – who also have two older siblings Prince Christian, 14, and Princess Isabella, 12 – playing with each other as Vincent plants a kiss on his sister’s cheek, who has a very mischievous expression on her face. While the other snap shows the pair grinning at the camera as they hug each other tightly.
A statement on the Det Danske Kongehus Instagram page read: “Their Royal Highnesses Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine are nine years old today. In connection with the birthday, it is a pleasure for the Crown Prince couple to share a number of new pictures of the Prince and Princess. The pictures have been taken in recent months and can be seen on the Royal House website.”
