Princess Charlene of Monaco is in a stable condition after collapsing and being rushed to hospital in South Africa, a spokesperson for the principality’s palace said on Friday.

The princess was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after suddenly collapsing due to complications from the severe ear, nose, and throat infection she contracted in May.

“Her Serene Highness (HSH) Princess Charlene of Monaco was rushed to hospital by ambulance late Wednesday night after collapsing due to complications from the severe ear, nose, and throat infection she contracted in May,” the palace statement read.

“Her Highness is followed closely by her medical team, which confirms her medical state is reassuring.”

Monaco’s Princess Charlene left the country in early May, with the royal revealing her initial 10-12 day South Africa trip had to be extended due to an illness.

The rumour mill was in full swing in early July after it was revealed the princess spent her ten-year anniversary apart from her husband Prince Albert.

News they’d be spending the anniversary apart sparked rumours of an impending split with publications quick to remember the tear-filled wedding and talk that she had tried to flee the country right before the big day, following reports Albert had fathered another illegitimate child.

At the time, the palace released a statement clearing up the rumours, stating the princess would be needing multiple medical “procedures” that will keep her in South Africa “indefinitely”.

Charlene’s hospital visit comes just a few days after she was reunited with her family in South Africa after being separated for months. To mark the occasion, Charlene shared a series of sweet family snaps to Instagram, which showed her, her husband Prince Albert and their two children, six-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella enjoying some family time outside.

“I am so thrilled to have my family back with me.,” she captioned the post. “(Gabriella decided to give herself a haircut!!!) Sorry my Bella I tried my best to fix it.”
