The official coronation portrait of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla has been revealed, as more details of the historic day come to light.
The new photograph of Their Majesties was taken in March in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace.
“As the countdown to the Coronation continues, a new photograph of The King and The Queen Consort, taken last month in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, has been released,” Buckingham Palace said in a post to social media.
In addition to the new portrait, Buckingham Palace also shared the invitation for the coronation, which will be sent to more than 2,000 guests, who will constitute the congregation in Westminster Abbey.
“The official invitation for the Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort has been revealed,” the Palace announced in a statement.
“Designed by Andrew Jamieson, the invitation features the motif of the Green Man, an ancient figure from British folklore, symbolic of spring and rebirth, to celebrate the new reign.
“Their Majesties’ arms, the emblematic flowers of the UK, and a British wildflower meadow and wildlife are all included on the design, which was hand-painted in watercolour and gouache, and will be reproduced and printed on recycled card, with gold foil detailing, for the 2,000 invited guests.”
Royal fans were treated to further details regarding the upcoming coronation, with the Palace confirming Prince George is set to play a significant part in his grandfather’s coronation, as he will be among the four pages responsible for assisting the King throughout the proceedings.
“Throughout the Coronation Service on 6th May, Their Majesties will each be attended by four Pages of Honour. The Pages will form part of the procession through the Nave of Westminster Abbey,” the Palace said in a statement.
“The King’s Pages of Honour will be His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales, Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, Master Nicholas Barclay and Master Ralph Tollemache.
“The Queen Consort’s Pages of Honour will be Her Majesty’s grandsons, Master Gus and Master Louis Lopes and Master Freddy Parker Bowles, and Her Majesty’s great-nephew, Master Arthur Elliot.”
Buckingham Palace had previously announced that the coronation ceremony will be held on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey and like his predecessors, Charles will be crowned in London’s Westminster Abbey where the Archbishop of Canterbury will conduct the service.
“The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” the Palace announced in a statement at the time.
