As the world stops to honour Princess Diana on the 25th anniversary of her death, her brother Charles Spencer has taken to social media to lead the tributes to his late sister.

Princess Diana tragically passed away after succumbing to injuries she sustained in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, she was 36 years old.

Spencer posted a simple yet moving photo of Althorp House which is the family’s ancestral home and where Diana was laid to rest with a flag flying at half-mast, to mark the solemn anniversary.

Spencer’s post was met with an outpouring of heartfelt messages with many expressing the grief they still feel to this day over Diana’s passing.

“I brought flowers to Althorp that morning 25 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday,” one commenter wrote.

“Still as shocking as ever, that she’s gone. But forever in our hearts ♥️ RIP dearest Diana.”

“After all these years I’m still in disbelief and heartbroken ???? RIP Diana,” another shared.

“RIP Diana you beautiful, kind hearted soul and THANK YOU SO MUCH for your genuine humanity, compassion and generous spirit. Forever in our hearts.”

“I’ve been thinking about her all day. May she Rest In Peace & those still living give her the respect she deserves in peace.”

“Thank you for posting. So many of us are still grieving our PEOPLE’S PRINCESS- forever in our hearts!”

Noticeably absent from offering their tributes were the Royal Family with the Queen, Prince Wiliam, Prince Harry, and Prince Charles making no mention of the anniversary, instead choosing to mark the day privately.

Prince Harry had earlier reflected on Diana’s legacy while revealing how he plans to honour his late mother, following a charity polo match at Sentebale Polo Club in Colorado on Thursday, August 25.

Harry addressed the crowd where he revealed that he wants the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death to be “a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way that she did it”.

“Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother’s death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten,” he told the crowd.

“I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.

“Every day, I hope to do her proud.”

Although members of the Royal Family chose to honour Diana privately, music icon Elton John delivered a public tribute to the ‘people’s princess in a post on social media.

Elton was close friends with Diana after the pair met at a birthday celebration, their shared commitment to charitable endeavors and raising awareness regarding AIDS brought them closer together.

The 75-year-old music icon also performed at Diana’s funeral with an adaptation of Candle In The Wind to honour his late friend.

In his latest tribute, Elton simply wrote, “You will always be missed”.
