Mary radiates glamour at royal nephew’s birthday party

While most teenagers celebrate their eighteenth birthday with their first legal drink and a raucous party with friends, Denmark’s Prince Nikolai has been treated to a more glamorous affair for his landmark birthday.

The young prince, now being hailed as one of Europe’s most eligible bachelors, was joined on board the Danish royal yacht Dannebrog by his grandmother, the Queen, and the rest of the royal family.

Princess Mary attended with her four children Christian, 11, Isabella, 10, and twins Josephine and Vincent, six, but had to make do without her husband Frederik, who has been in Australia for the Hamilton Island Race Week.

The entire royal family donned their best party outfits for the occasion, but it was Mary who stole the show with her champagne-coloured, jewelled frock.

She paired her dress with gold shoes and simple accessories.

Her dashing young boys wore tuxedos for the special night out, while her girls looked sweet in matching white coats and ballet flats.

It was a night of family reunions for the Danish royals, with the Queen’s embattled husband Prince Henrik making an appearance and Nikolai’s mother Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg, welcomed back into the fold.

The Countess and Nikolai’s father, Prince Joachim divorced in 2005, but share joint custody of Nikolai and his younger brother Prince Felix.

While both the Countess and Joachim have remarried, it appeared there was little tension between them, with the former couple happily posing for a photo with Nikolai and Joachim’s wife Princess Marie.

Another photo showed Nikolai’s half-sister Princess Athena reaching up to give him a cuddle while the family watched on.

Nikolai is seventh in line to the throne and as such will not receive money, a title or land from his grandmother now that he’s come of age.

Are you a fan of this royal family? Have you had to deal with family gatherings after divorcing?
