A man and a child have been found dead in a car on the Sunshine Coast in what’s reportedly feared to be a murder-suicide.

Queensland Police have confirmed the two bodies were discovered inside a vehicle at the Roys Road camping ground at Coochin Creek around 8am on Wednesday.

They are yet to be formally identified but police have since confirmed in a press conference, filmed by 7 News, that the child was just six months old and the man, 46, was his father – both from the Redcliffe area. The little boy was reported missing on Monday and police added that there had been a domestic incident prior to their tragic deaths – although they wouldn’t specify exactly what had happened.

“The mother was distraught, as you can imagine,” Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen said on camera. “It’s still early stages in the investigation and we will be determining the circumstances surrounding [the deaths] but at this stage we have a tragic incident in which a father and his child are deceased.”

He added: “It’s a very tragic incident.”

Police added in a statement: “At this stage, detectives are treating the death of the child as suspicious and the man’s death as non-suspicious. Investigations are continuing.”

A crime scene has been set up around the red Commodore — the area where the car was found.

According to the ABC, Child Protection unit detectives are treating the matter as an apparent murder-suicide.
