Months after she was rushed to hospital following a fall, beloved celebrity chef Maggie Beer has revealed that she has “come such a long way” in her recovery.

In a recent interview with The Australian, Beer reflected on the challenges she faced, revealing how her progress has taught her valuable lessons in patience.

“I’ve come such a long way, considering I’ve been home from hospital for a month and when I first came home I’d be up for an hour and back to bed for an hour,” she told the publication.

“Yesterday, I was up all day without resting – that is a monumental step forward. Full recovery takes time and I’m not the most patient person in the world.

“So I’m learning to be a different kind of person, accepting that things go slowly sometimes.”

The welcome update comes after Beer previously expressed her gratitude to fans after being “overwhelmed” by the support she received following her fall. Beer also shared that although she had made strides in her recovery, she still “has a long way to go”.

“My granddaughter came up and gave me a makeover so I felt brave enough and glam enough to say hello to everyone because it’s been such a long time of radio silence,” she said at the time.

“The support I’ve had from the whole community, Australia wide and from friends and family. I have just been so thankful and overwhelmed.

“I’ve come such a long way but I did underestimate the severity of the injuries and so even though I want to tell you how good I’m feeling now, I still have a long way to go.

“But I will make a full recovery and part of it is the care and the love that has been given.”

Fans originally learned of Beer’s fall and the injuries she sustained after her family took to social media to offer an update on her condition, revealing in a statement that she had suffered “a couple” of injuries, including “minor bone fractures”.

“Hello Friends, it’s Maggie’s family here. Just writing to let you know that following a fall at her home, she’s unfortunately suffered a couple of minor bone fractures and related injuries,” the family wrote at the time.

“Thankfully Col, her husband, was there and she is now in the excellent hands of her doctors who are confident she will make a full recovery.

“It may just take a little while.

“More than anything else, Maggie hates letting people down. But she has multiple events and public engagements coming up that she may have to miss.

“She has asked us to apologise on her behalf to all those affected – and has asked for your patience as she recuperates. Thank you for your understanding.”
