It’s no secret Prince Philip was close to all his grandchildren as many young royals went on record to share their heartfelt memories of him.

But now Princess Beatrice has outdone her cousins, and taken on a new role that was previously held by her late grandfather that champions one of his passions – education.

The 36-year-old princess has been appointed royal patron of the Chartered College of Teaching, a professional organisation for teachers which champions “excellence in teaching” and currently includes more than 42,000 members.

Beatrice, who was diagnosed with dyslexia at age seven, spoke of the power “that teachers have on shaping lives” and knew “first hand” the impact good teaching can have via a statement released by the organisation on X.

“To me, the power that teachers have on shaping lives and transforming futures makes it one of the most commendable and highly regarded professions,” she said.

“I’m a passionate believer in the vital role that teachers play every day and know firsthand the impact that great teaching can leave on a child and their family.”

She also shared her excitement at taking on the role once held by Prince Philip and looked forward to championing the organisation that was founded in 1846 and granted royal charter by Queen Victoria – Beatrice’s great-great-great-great grandmother.

“It’s a real honor to take up the role as Patron of the Chartered College of Teaching, a role previously held by my grandfather,” she said.

“I’m really excited to support the College’s mission to champion excellence in teaching and to celebrate the impact of this incredible profession.”

On the same post, the college wrote they were “delighted” that Princess Beatrice took on the role, highlighting her previous support for education and the teaching profession.

“Princess Beatrice has shown strong support for education through her work with Big Change and other organisations,” the post said.

“Her patronage will help elevate the profession and support our mission to champion teachers.”
