Movie hunk and all-around sweetheart Hugh Jackman is one of the many proud Australians congratulating latest golfing legend Cameron Smith for his historic win at the 2022 British Open on Monday, July 18.

The day following Smith’s win, the 53-year-old Les Misérable star took to social media to share a throwback photo of himself sporting a “chappie” mullet with a caption that read: “You win Cameron Smith, on and off the field.”

The photo shared a side-by-side comparison of Smith sporting his signature long mullet during his final round at the Open Gold Championships in St Andrews, while the other photo featured a younger, bearded Jackman styling a sleek short mullet for his 2015 movie Chappie.

While Smith is yet to respond to Jackment’s post, many fans were quick to flood the comments section to share their feeling about the increasingly popular hairstyle.

While some praised both the men for their ‘do’s;

Now this is a VIBE,” Amazon Prime AU and NZ wrote.

“Are you Google? You’ve got everything I’ve been searching for!” said another.

Others were not as impressed.

“Wait.. um… Mr.Hugh?..  where that pic of Sexy Logan in that tom ford suit go?..  or is my phone? not loading? “one user wrote.

Love or hate the mullet, one thing is certain – Smith has without a doubt etched his name in Australian sporting folklore with an extraordinary comeback victory.

Having started the final round with four shots off, spectators were convinced the 2022 British Open was Rory McIlroy’s for the taking.

That was until the 28-year-old played one of the most significant final rounds in majors history, becoming the first Australian to claim the famous Claret Jug since Greg Norman at Royal St George’s in 1993.

After winning the unbelievable match, Smith dedicated his major triumph to the crowd of Australian fans who roared him to victory.

“I had a lot of support out there, especially the Aussie guys, you guys really kept me going out there,” Smith said.
