Fans were quick to comment on the post and pay tribute to the late singer. “So sad to hear,” one commenter wrote. “Was listening to him on my way back home from work last night. Such great music. Prayers for the family.”

Another added: “My condolences. Your great love for him during his illness is a testament to your life together. Loved his music, continue to play it. May you take comfort in your family and friends.”

While a third wrote: “My heartfelt sadness at this news. May you find comfort in your happy memories and know that Hal has imprinted so many lives on his journey. Many hugs and prayers.”

Ketchum’s passing comes 19 months after his wife revealed his shock Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She broke the news on the singer’s official Facebook page at the time, writing: “Dear friends and fans of Hal, this is Andrea, Hal’s wife. I know everyone is wondering why there are no future tour dates, and [there are] speculations as to the reason. Our family would like to share the cause for this. Unfortunately, Hal is suffering from Alzheimer’s/Dementia. He has been battling this for some time now, but because of his love for his fans, he continued performing as long as it was possible.

“Dementia is an exhausting and confusing illness and now it’s time for Hal to stay home with loved ones. Hal is otherwise healthy and happy, enjoying time with his family and friends.”
