Queen Camilla’s son has publicly praised his mum amid King Charles’ cancer battle while giving an update on the Monarch’s current health status.
Tom Parker-Bowles made the comments while promoting his current cookbook, Cooking And The Crown, which covers favourite recipes of the Royal Family from the 19th Century to today.
While speaking to well-wishers the food writer said the King was doing “quite well” and revealed how his mother was coping with the King’s care.
As reported in The Express, Parker-Bowles said that “the doctor says the treatment is going well” and reassured well-wishers of his mother’s mindset during this difficult time.
“She’s tough, my mother,” he added.
Charles’ positive health update will come as good news for royal fans in the Pacific as the King and Queen gear up for an official visit to Australia and Samoa later in the year.
The King, 75 and the Queen, 77 will land in Australia on October 18 before heading to Samoa six days later for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), before returning to the UK later in the month.
Unfortunately for New Zealand, the tour will miss the land of the long white cloud due to doctors’ orders as the King continues with outpatient cancer treatment.
As reported in People magazine, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said they had to make some, “tough decisions with the Australian Government where the monarchs can get to.”
“We’ve had to, as you would with any visit, think about how you can ensure Their Majesties’ energies are preserved to be at their best,” they said.
It will be the first trip to Australia by a reigning monarch since 2011, when Queen Elizabeth II travelled to Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth.
The news of the King’s diagnosis sent shockwaves globally when, following his three night stay in hospital for a procedure on a benign enlarged prostate, a separate issue was identified.
The Palace later confirmed, through a statement, that subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, emphasising it’s unrelated to the previous prostate problem.
Despite his health challenges, the King has responded well to treatment and doctors gave him the green light to resume some public facing duties in April.
