In what will no doubt come as little surprise to royal fans, the beloved Princess Catherine has secured the title of most popular royal.

Princess Catherine’s overwhelming popularity among the public was confirmed in a recent Ipsos poll that found that 66 per cent of Britons hold a favourable view of the Princess of Wales.

Catherine’s husband, Prince William, followed closely behind in the popularity stakes with 65 per cent holding a favourable view of the future king.

Princess Anne ranked third with a 62 per cent approval rating, while her brother, King Charles, followed with 56 per cent.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle lagged in popularity, holding a lower favourable rating of 28 per cent and 21 per cent respectively.

While Harry may not be as popular as other royals, the public is somewhat split as to whether he should return to royal duties with 34 per cent in favour of his return and 37 per cent opposed.

Overall, support for the monarchy remains strong, with 44 per cent of Britons believing that abolishing it would make Britain’s future worse, 23 per cent holding the view it would be better if it were abolished, and 27 per cent claiming it would make no difference.

Gideon Skinner, Senior Director of UK Politics at Ipsos said the poll’s findings highlight “the Royal Family’s enduring appeal”.

“While the Princess of Wales continues to be the most popular Royal, closely followed by Prince William, the data reveals a clear generational split in attitudes towards Prince Harry. Younger Britons are more than twice as likely to support his return to royal duties than those aged 55-75,” Skinner said.

“It’s also noteworthy that over half of Britons believe King Charles is performing well in his role, and only a minority want to abolish the monarchy, suggesting a degree of stability in the Royal Family’s image.

“However, younger generations continue to feel much less enthusiastic about the monarchy, which underscores the need for the Royals to build connections with this group.”

It’s hardly surprising that Princess Catherine holds the top spot as the most popular royal given the overwhelming love and support she has received lately in light of her battle with cancer.

After stepping away from the spotlight following a two-week hospital stay in January, after she underwent major abdominal surgery, Catherine was met with a flood of support when she revealed, in an emotional video message, that she had been diagnosed with cancer and would be taking time away as she underwent treatment.

Following a prolonged absence from the public eye, Catherine eased concerns for her well-being and delighted the public when she announced that she was “making good progress” in her cancer battle and would be attending this year’s Trooping the Colour.

Her return to public life was met with an outpouring of support and admiration. Catherine’s appearance at Trooping the Colour garnered overwhelming fanfare, and she was warmly welcomed with a standing ovation upon her arrival at this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Catherine shared the good news in a moving personal message on social media alongside a video of her with her husband and their three young children, Princes George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.
