Getting a good nights rest is the answer to a lot of life’s problems whether it be getting over a cold or needing a few extra zzz’s to boost your energy and have a productive day. However, there are a few different factors that can effect a perfectly restful sleep, one being what you wear to bed.
A survey conducted by Mattress Advisor has broken down the numbers and found just how many people prefer to sleep completely nude, compared to those who like to cuddle up in pyjamas.
After interviewing 1,015 people about their sleeping habits, the company has revealed Baby Boomers are those most likely to don some comfy PJs, while perhaps not surprisingly it’s the Millennials who prefer sleeping stark naked.
A total of 39 per cent of Baby Boomers said they didn’t wear a stitch of clothing to bed, compared to 65 per cent of Millennials who prefer to be free of clothing as they sleep. The main reason for the bedtime nudity? Mainly just because it’s comfier. Around 58 per cent said it was relaxing, while 54 per cent said they simply sleep better naked.
For the other naked sleepers, their reasons included wanting to avoid sweating (nearly 40 per cent), and letting their skin be free and able to breathe (almost 38 per cent). Only 16 per cent said it was because they were trying to boost their love life.
As for the pyjama wearers, 31 per cent of them apparently sleep fully clothed while 69 per cent said they wear only some clothing, whether it be undies or just a top.
For a lot of the respondents, women mainly, it was more practical meaning they would be prepared if a fire spread through the house or they had to quickly jump out of the comfort of their bed for another emergency.
And it really probably depends on what kind of climate you live in, because for women the other top answer for donning the PJs was to simply stay warm at night. While men wanted to minimise the chance of their privates rubbing on the sheets.
Unfortunately for those who prefer sleeping nude, this does come with far more potential problems than those who love their PJs. Being walked in on while naked or getting bitten by a bug were the most common issues revealed throughout the survey.
So overall, there are positives and negatives to both options, and it really depends on what is most comfortable and gives you the best night’s sleep.
