Camilla is embracing the heat on her royal African tour with Prince Charles and opted for a very summery outfit on her first day in The Gambia.

The Duchess of Cornwall, 71, shone out in a knee-length turquoise tunic and white flared trousers to meet President Adama Barrow at the State House in The Gambia on Thursday, before embarking on an action-packed day with her husband.

Wearing low cream wedges and carrying a cherry-printed clutch bag, the duchess cut a vibrant figure on the day out – flashing a beaming smile to fans at McCarthy Square in Banjul, where Charles delivered a speech.

Prepared for the sun as she watched her husband, Camilla carried a parasol at hand to protect her and later added some dark sunglasses to her ensemble.

Charles, who dressed up in a smart grey suit for the occasion, congratulated The Gambia for returning to the Commonwealth fold in February. He added: “We are friends and partners, and once again we are both members of the Commonwealth family of nations.”

He went on to say that the country is “turning its back on 20 years of autocratic rule in order to embrace a new beginning.”

The day wasn’t over there, as the pair went on to visit a medical research facility run by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Charles then visited an armed forces training centre, while Camilla admired a series of handicrafts and clothes made by young female entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the couple were given a very royal welcome when they landed the day before, as they were greeted by dancers in colourful outfits and a number of dignitaries.

This time, Camilla opted for a long white and gold-printed tunic with matching trousers and cream wedges.

Once settled, they both then attended a reception to meet representatives from the Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships Alumni. Clarence House has now announced that the royals will go on to visit Ghana and Nigeria following their brief stay in The Gambia.

It comes after the duchess’ son Tom Parker Bowles revealed his mother is a huge fan of his Aussie show Family Food Fight when she’s at home relaxing.

“She just laughs at me judging food. She’s always a good, supportive mother,” he told the publication.
