Crafts to entertain your grandchildren these holidays

As school holidays are approaching it’s time to get your activities and crafts ready. Our grandchildren are fixated on their iPads or iPhones, but sometimes it’s the most simplest and fun activities that can keep them entertained and away from the screen.

Try and make the most of the time you have with your grandchildren. Step away from the toys and technology and start having fun with your grandchildren by using your own skills in crafts.

Here are the top 10 crafts you should try these holidays:

1. Magnetic paper dolls

 

Cut out some paper dolls and attach them to some sticky magnet sheets. Instant magnetic paper dolls!

2. Butterfly footprints

This is definitely one for hanging on the wall! Have each child use finger paint to make a footprint on a canvas, or even a piece of paper. Add some cute antennae and add their names beneath each creation, and you have a beautiful piece of homemade artwork for Nana and Papa’s wall!

7. Flubber

This is a really fun and exciting activity for children that gets them involved hands on.

What you’ll need:

  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 1 cup PVA glue
  • A few drops food colouring
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon Borax (you can find this in the laundry aisle and has heaps of other uses around the home!)

10. Homemade kazoo

Materials

  • Cardboard tube (old toilet paper roll or paper towel roll)
  • Wax paper
  • Rubberband
  • Sharp pencil (or other sharp object) to poke holes
  • Paint or other art supplies to decorate your kazoo (optional)

Cover the end of your cardboard tube with wax paper. Secure it with a rubber band. Poke a hole in the side of the tube using the sharp pencil or other sharp object. Decorate the kazoo with paint and get creative with your grand children.
