Common skin problems for men in their 60s

Share:

As the years pass there are things that will happen for you, you will find great a few distinguished greys, you will become sought after for your wisdom, and your skin will start to do a few things that will gross you out.

No one tells you about the skin conditions; they are probably too busy going on about the wisdom.  There are a few skin conditions that you should keep an eye on as you earn your greys.

Eczema

Eczema is one of the most common skin problems that people can develop.  Over half, the population suffers from some varying degree of the condition.  It can be minor and cause small itchy patches on skin or can it can major which will cover your body to be in a constant state of itchiness.  Head of the Division of Paediatric Allergy and Immunology at National Jewish Health, Dr Donald Y. M. Leung told Men’s Health “People can’t sleep or concentrate, and they itch constantly,” but he insists that you shouldn’t scratch.  Scratching can cause infections in the skin.  People who suffer from extreme stress or live in dry climates can be at a risk of outbreaks.

You can treat your Eczema with topical steroid creams, Vitamin D, phototherapy, and antihistamines.  You could get a referral from your GP for a Dermatologist for more specialised treatments.

Psoriasis

Caused by a problem with the body’s immune system, Psoriasis can sometimes be ignored as just itchy dry skin.  Psoriasis’ main effects are inflammation and skin scaling.  There is no way to prevent this skin disorder, but there are a lot of common treatments for it.

You can try different balms and unscented moisturisers as well as Vitamin A to help combat Psoriasis.  If you are not satisfied with these treatments, a Dermatologist can prescribe something to help.

Rosacea

You’ve seen people with the red faces who you might just have assumed that they spent the night on the drink, but it’s a skin problem called Rosacea.  If left untreated it can get progressively worse.  It’s not life threatening, but it does threaten your self-esteem and confidence.

Rosacea can not be treated with over the counter products and will need a visit to your doctor to diagnose and treat.

If you have any condition that you are unsure about you should always get the advice of your doctor to ensure the best treatment.

Do you have one of these conditions?  Do you have one that you think more people should know about?  What advice would you give to those who are unsure about what to do with their skin condition?
