Sir Tom Jones has revealed his hopes to walk without a cane in the New Year, months after major surgery to have a hip replacement.

The legendary singer, 77, has been recovering ever since his operation, and has been walking with just one cane in recent weeks.

However, he’s now vowed not to slow down yet – and wants to walk completely unaided within days.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “Every day is getting better, I’m walking every day. I started off on crutches, then two canes, then I could walk with one.

“Next week I’ll hopefully be able to walk without any canes.

“Everything went according to plan. I’ve had it checked and it’s all great.”

The singer insisted he has no plans to slow down, and while he believes some fans think it’s time he retired to “a golf course”, he added that the “best part of my day is when I’m singing”.

It’s been a tough year for the ‘It’s Not Unusual’ hit maker, after abruptly postponing his American tour in September, citing health reasons.

A press release explained: “Following medical advice, Sir Tom Jones has announced that he will unfortunately be postponing his US tour … Tom sends his sincere apologies to his fans and looks forward to seeing them all again in 2018.”

A month later, he took to Twitter to explain that he underwent surgery for a new hip.

“Pappa’s got a brand new hip, yeah,” he tweeted to his fans with a photo of himself with a cane.

Are you impressed with the star’s recovery time? Do you want him to keep performing for years to come?
