Australia has continued to pay tribute to the late actress and singer Olivia Newton-John in more ways than one.

The Grammy award-winning singer and actress, who is best known for her role as Sandy in the ’70s musical  Grease, died in her southern California home on August 8, at 73 years old after a long battle with cancer.

While Victoria makes plans to host a memorial tribute for Newton-John, 7News is scheduled to air a TV special to honour her life.

Olivia – A Magical Life will share an abundance of intimate memories from the late star’s life and feature a never-before-seen interview where the music icon shares details of her final resting place in Australia, prior to her tragic death.

As per 7News, Olivia – A Magical Life “is set to be an emotional and uplifting tribute to an artist who touched hearts and lives around the world”.

The programme will be a star-studded event featuring appearances from Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb, music veteran Cliff Richard and Australian pop singer Delta Goodrem.

Newton-John’s co-star Didi Conn, who played Frenchie in Grease, will also make an appearance for the special.

Songbird Dani Im will also be lending her vocals for the special, alongside Wendy Mathews, Katie Noonan and Samantha Jade, who will perform  Newton-John’s hit classic I Honestly Love You.

The upcoming special comes as Victoria bathed in a pink glow to honour Newton-John’s legacy, while social media platforms were flooded with tributes from famous faces and fans from all over the world, each one sharing the impact the late star had on them.

Plans for Newton-John’s state memorial are still underway with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews promising that the day will be “celebrating her life … her music and film and all the other amazing contributions that she made”.

Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, before overcoming the disease after undergoing a partial mastectomy and chemotherapy.

However, her cancer returned in 2013 and despite beating the disease a second time, Newton-John’s cancer came back a third time in 2017 after it had spread to her bones and developed to stage four.

Newton-John is survived by her husband John Easterling, her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, sister Sarah Newton-John, brother Toby Newton-John as well as several nieces and nephews.

Olivia – A Magical Life will air on Channel 7 and 7Plus on Sunday, August 21, at 8.30 pm.
