Ever since The Dress took the internet by storm in 2015, with over 10-million retweets, the online community has continuously scoured the internet for the next optical illusion.
And while many optical illusions have surfaced in the last six years, many still favour one made by a prolific Japanese illusion artist, who goes by the user name Jagarikin, on Twitter.
Dubbed Super Illusion Brothers, the gif seems to depict several stick figures running and jumping off a set of stairs- the catch, they aren’t moving at all.
With numerous likes and retweets, this optical illusion has fried the brains of thousands of commenters.
Seeing thousands confused online, Jagarikin took to Twitter to explain how the illusion worked, simply stating that the Super Illusion Brothers is a “reverse-phi illusion”-which according to Standford University is a “basic effect” whereby “if a bright point appears at one position, and then reappears at a position shifted to the right, we tend to see a single object moving left to right.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Jagarikin wowed Twitter users with his mind-boggling illusions. Also in 2020, they made heads spin with what looked like a pair of “rotating” cubes, which actually aren’t moving at all.
