After nearly four decades dedicated to caring for Brisbane’s older residents, Leti Asi has retired from Carinity Clifford House aged care home, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and genuine connection.

Leti’s career began in her thirties, inspired by a philosophy of service closely aligned to Carinity’s own values. Over 39 years, she wore many hats: personal carer, nurse, activities officer, and always, trusted friend. Her commitment wasn’t just to daily routines, but to helping residents truly live. From spirited outings to concerts and dinners to supporting people with dementia and nurturing friendships between young and old, Leti has been at the heart of daily life.

For Leti, the essence of her work was found in the simple moments. “The favourite part of my job is making those connections with residents. I love listening to them, knowing the stories, helping them to overcome challenges, and taking them out to do what they want to do,” she says. Her belief is that small acts of kindness -meeting those ‘little needs’ – make all the difference.

Leti’s approach to aged care was never just about duty. For her, supporting seniors was “part of my DNA.” Each day, she found satisfaction in knowing she had made a positive impact. “It makes your heart feel good. I’ll go home satisfied, feeling that I’ve done a good thing for someone today,” she says. “That was my purpose and my biggest goal: to serve others.”

As Leti embarks on her well-deserved retirement, her legacy remains in the lives she touched, the wisdom she shared, and the caring community she helped build. Brisbane seniors, and the colleagues who walked alongside her, will long remember Leti’s warmth and dedication.
