Most people are aware that snakes are commonly found in the bush or somewhere in the wild, but it turns out they could also be looking to make your upstairs bedroom their new home.

Horrifying footage has shown a giant python scaling the side of a suburban home in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast in Australia. Resident Robbie Knills was hanging out his washing when he first noticed the three-metre-long python, according to My GC. The snake appeared from bushes in Knills’ backyard, before slithering across his patio and climbing up the side of the house.

In footage that is enough to make anyone’s skin crawl, the snake could be seen making its way high above the ground and to the roof of the house.

Knills said the snake had been living in the rafters of his shed for around six months, but ventured out in search for food. And despite being shocked by the snake when he first saw it, Knills said he had grown fond of his reptile friend.

“He just hangs out,” he explained to My GC. “He comes out and sees me when I’m working in the shed. I don’t trouble him and he doesn’t trouble me.”

Footage of the snake was uploaded to Facebook over the weekend and has since been viewed more than 215,165 times and shared nearly 2,000 times. Reactions were mixed.

One person wrote: “I would kill this if that was my house.”

Another comment read: “Hope they caught it or killed it. I see a small child lives in that house. People are more important than snakes.”

A third disagreed and added: “Best rat catcher out there. Leave them alone and they’ll be fine.”

It’s not the only snake in a metropolitan area that has made headlines this week. In the United Kingdom, a snake was captured on the streets of London munching on a pigeon.

While it’s not yet known how the snake made its way to High Road in Leytonstone, Twitter user Dave Fawbert shared a picture of the image online.

“Just a python eating a pigeon on Leytonstone High Road,” he wrote.

According to the BBC, the RSPCA captured the reptile and took it to a wildlife centre. It is appealing for information.

What do you think? Are you a fan of snakes? Have you ever found one in your home?
