When it comes to travel experiences, over-60s are an eclectic bunch. While some prefer a long cruise — where all incidentals are taken care of — others prefer to get adventurous and discover a new destination all on their own.
Whatever the case may be for you, there are some locations that over-60 travellers prefer more than others and this week we asked the Travel at 60 community to find out exactly which countries are at the very top of their bucket lists. What’s yours?
With 52 votes, travellers over 60 love to holiday within their home country of Australia. “We holiday in Australia one year, then overseas the next,” said Elspeth Mackay. “Had an amazing four weeks in The Kimberley last holiday and next year we are off to Romania (for a wedding), Budapest, Prague, UK and Ireland.”
Following closely behind in second place is Canada with 32 votes. “Love love love Canada been this year and can’t wait to return!” said Vikki Hamilton.
With 26 votes is romantic Italy, which is loved by travellers over 60. “Make sure you visit Sicily, the real Italian experience,” advised Margaret Palisi.
Just across the ditch we have New Zealand with 12 votes, which is a country many over-60s can’t help but keep returning to. “I’ve been there four times already,” said Sue Tinkler.
Ireland came in at spot number five with 11 votes. But it was a bit of a difficult choice for some. “Scotland/Ireland. I can’t separate them,” admitted Howard Philbey.
But Scotland makes an appearance, too, with nine votes.
As does Hawaii with eight.
Greece received seven.
The United States, five.
And ice-cold Antarctica, four.
