The Beach Boys’ second number one

Share:

Yet another Beach Boys’ classic, ‘Help Me, Rhonda’ soared to the top of the charts today in 1965, making it the band’s second US number one.

The lyrics tell of a male attracted to a girl who is with someone else, and he begs her to help him. The song’s writer Brian Wilson said that Rhonda was not based on anyone he knew. He did however say he wished the song had a better rhythm! Would you agree?

In Australia, the song only ever peaked at #10 but was a hit around the world, which featured in many live sets. The vocalist changed from Al Jardine in the 70s but he took over again in 1974 because it was his signature song.

Tell us, do you remember singing along to one of The Beach Boys’ biggest tracks?
