Flashback: In 1972 this iconic American band split

Share:

On this day in 1972 this incredibly successful American rock band announced their split. The stress of touring and performing had began to pull the band apart.

Nevertheless this band’s music is still a staple of American and worldwide radio airplay. They have sold 26 million albums in the United States alone and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Rolling Stone ranked the band eighty-second on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.

Their musical influence can be heard in many genres including southern rock, grunge, roots rock, and blues. And even though the band originated from San Francisco Bay they portrayed themselves as Southern rock stylists, singing about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River, and other popular elements of Southern iconography.

The band consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty (John’s brother), bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford.

Can you pick the band? It is Credence Clearwater Revival or CCR.

Here is one of their most popular hits “Have you Ever Seen the Rain”.  Were you a fan of CCR?
