Queen Elizabeth II has reportedly officially departed her previous home of Buckingham Palace to permanently reside at Windsor Castle.

The Queen temporarily moved to Windsor Castle whilst Buckingham Palace underwent major long-term renovations, however, it has since been decided that she will remain at Windsor Castle for good. Her Majesty had originally vacated Buckingham Palace when the Covid-19 pandemic first broke out and the Castle has remained her base residence since.

The decision comes in an effort to minimise the Queen’s travel as well as the conclusion that the Palace is no longer deemed an appropriate long-term residence for Her Majesty. It is expected that the Queen will now permanently work from home amid growing health considerations for the 95-year-old monarch.

Last year, the Queen was ordered to rest for several weeks by her doctors after they revealed she was suffering from severe exhaustion amidst having taken ill with an unknown illness.

Her Majesty will likely return to Buckingham Palace for special occasions and events including the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations which are planned for June this year, as the Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne.

She is also set to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on June 2 as she celebrates her official birthday (April 21) and continues long-running traditions despite changed living arrangements. The Palace will now permanently fly the Union Jack to signify the Queen is not residing at the Palace.
