The first official photograph of the beautiful Queen Elizabeth II has been shared once again with the public 67 years after it was captured.

The royal family took to social media on Tuesday to release the snap of the then 25-year-old Queen who took to the throne in February 1952, following the death of her father King George VI.

Detailing the story behind the photograph, which was captured just 20 days after she became queen, the royal family explained its importance in the monarch’s history.

“On this day, the first official photographic sitting with The Queen was granted to the society photographer Dorothy Wilding,” the post read. “It took place on 26 February 1952. The photographs taken during the sitting were the basis of The Queen’s image on postage stamps from 1953 to 1973.”

In the black and white photograph Her Majesty looks absolutely beautiful with her hair styled in a low bun and a stunning crown perched upon her head.

Wearing an off the shoulder outfit, the Queen also sports a pair of pearl earrings and a dark lipstick to complete the look.

The post has received much attention from royal fans who were quick to comment on the royal’s beauty and grace.

“Her Majesty is so regal and beautiful,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“Such serenity. Dignity. Beauty,” another commented.  A third simply said: “Wow she is breathtaking”.

It would be another year before the Queen held her official coronation, allowing her enough time to grieve her father’s death before the lavish celebration took place.

While the Queen has stepped back slightly from some of her royal duties of late, she recently praised her grandson Prince Harry’s wife for her work ethic throughout her pregnancy.

According to Vanity Fair, the Queen has been impressed by Meghan’s “energy and stamina” in carrying out her official duties, despite being seven months pregnant with her first child.

“The Queen is amazed by the duchess’s energy and stamina given that she is so heavily pregnant,” a royal source told the magazine. “For the Queen and her generation, you generally hid your bump and put your feet up in this stage of pregnancy, but Meghan hasn’t stopped.”

And the royal couple may have a surprise waiting for them upon their return from their royal tour of Morocco, with reports suggesting the monarch is planning to pen a rare thank you letter to the duke and duchess.

“There may well be a letter waiting for the duke and duchess when they return,” the source added. “She respects hard work and loyalty above everything.”
