The royal family has released a series of never-before-seen images of Princess Anne’s childhood ahead of her 70th birthday this month. The Princess Royal will turn 70 on Saturday 15th August.

Taking to the royal family’s Instagram account, the royal family announced that they’ll be taking a look back at each decade of Princess Anne’s life over the next seven days.

One of the photos shows a very happy and blonde Princess Anne smiling widely at the camera. The second image appears to be from Anne’s christening back in 1950 and sees her cradled by her mum, Queen Elizabeth II, with proud dad Prince Phillip sitting behind them and a little Prince Charles smiling timidly at the camera.

A third and fourth image shows Princess Anne posing alongside her older brother and mother, and then again with Prince Charles when they’re a bit older, while another shows the young royal playing with a horse. The last and final image shows a much older Anne and Charles posing alongside their parents.

“Next Saturday, The Princess Royal will turn 70!” the royal family captioned the post. “Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, the only daughter of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, was born on 15th August, 1950.

“The Princess Royal undertakes a busy schedule of engagements and is involved with over 300 patronages linked to her wide range of interests, including sport, agriculture and animals, science, medicine and healthcare, international development, education, sailing and the military.

The royal family has also released a new documentary ‘The Princess Royal at 70’, which aired in the UK last month, ahead of her 70th birthday in August. The documentary gives royal fans a unique insight into Anne’s public and private life.

Anne’s children Peter and Zara reportedly opened up about their mother’s relationship with their children in the documentary. Peter is father to Savannah, nine and Isla, eight, while Zara shares Mia Grace, six and Lena Elizabeth, two with husband Mike.

She loves seeing them ride, she loves having them around for Sunday lunches,” Peter said, according to the Daily Mail. “Doing all the sorts of stuff we used to do as kids; she now takes them to do this sort of things.”

Zara then chimed in: “We quite like leaving them on Sundays. We’ll say ‘We’ll pick them up later, bye’.”
