He may have retired from all royal duties in 2017 but Prince Philip has been spotted out and about.

In a rare public appearance, the Duke of Edinburgh joined Queen Elizabeth II for an afternoon of polo for the Cartier Queen’s Cup Final at Windsor Great Park in Berkshire. Prince Philip’s latest outing comes just a week after he celebrated his 97th birthday and after a series of health battles this year.

As you may recall, Prince Philip was admitted to hospital just before Easter due to an ongoing hip problem and underwent surgery hip replacement surgery. If that wasn’t enough, it was also reported that Prince Philip suffered a cracked rib shortly before the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last month, but put on a brave face to witness his grandson getting married.

Although it’s summer in the United Kingdom, both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh rugged up for the sporting event on Sunday afternoon. Prince Philip opted for a warm khaki jacket with a smart shirt and a tie. His jacket was complete with the “All The Queen’s Horses” emblem. Since 1952, Philip attended a total of 22,219 solo engagements before officially retiring last year.

As for the Queen, she opted for a stunning baby blue outfit that was perfect for the event. Her dress coat was complete with intricate white lacing that resembled flowers. The white lacing matched her stunning pearl necklace and white gloves. While Prince Philip was present for the event, it was Queen Elizabeth who was more social.

In addition to presenting the winner’s trophy as she has done in the past, the Queen was also spotted mingling with other guests and players on the team. It’s been a busy few weeks for the 92-year-old.

Just last week, the Queen joined Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, for her first solo royal engagement without Prince Harry. Taking the new royal under her wing, the Queen joined the former actress for a visit to the British city of Chester.

The pair spent a busy day officially opening the Mersey Gateway Bridge at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre. The pair wowed onlookers when they opened the Storyhouse theatre, before attending a special lunch at the iconic Chester Town Hall.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the royals? Are you happy to see Prince Philip out and about after a rough couple of months?
