If you’re a diehard fan of The Crown, you’re in for a treat today. The hit Netflix series, which centres on the lives of the British Royal Family, is currently filming the upcoming fifth season, with British actress Olivia Williams portraying Camilla Parker-Bowles; blonde bob and all.
The actress bears a striking resemblance to the future Queen Consort, in pictures of Williams in costume. The images have been shared widely on social media, drumming up excitement for the fifth season.
This will also be Williams’s first time stepping into her role on the series. The 53-year-old actress rounds out the new cast, which also includes Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and is expected to play out the complex love triangle between the three this season.
The upcoming season is expected to kick off in the early ’90s and will cover the dramatic breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage. It is also rumoured that the storyline will focus in part on 1992, which the Queen declared to be an “annus horribilis.” As it was the year when three of her four children were separated from their spouses and the year of the devastating Windsor Castle fire.
It is also likely that this season will carry through to 1995 when Princess Diana gave her bombshell tell-all interview to the BBC’s Panorama. It was in this sit-down interview where Diana famously said “there were three of us in this marriage,” hinting at Charles’ affair with Camilla.
Williams joins previously the previously announced cast members for the final two seasons of The Crown, including Imelda Staunton; Leslie Manville as Princess Margaret, and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip.
Netflix has also confirmed that after season five, the beloved show will sadly come to an end with a sixth and final season.
Season 5 of The Crown will premiere in November 2022.
