Captain Kate! The Duchess of Cambridge set sail for a thrilling race over the weekend as she attended the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix at Trinity Pier Plymouth, England.

On Sunday morning, July 31, the 40-year-old mother of three took a break from her action-packed summer holiday with her children to visit the global sailing competition and support Olympic sailor Sir Ben Ainslie and his organisation, the 1851 Trust.

Wearing a chic nautical ensemble, Kate arrived at the event looking as classy as ever.

The royal style icon opted for a classic navy blue and white striped jumper, pairing the top with Holland Taylor white linen shorts accented with gold buttons, white Superga “Cotu” sneakers and small gold hooped earrings, perfectly matched with the gold details on her shorts.

Not one for a dramatic makeup look, Kate chose to wear very little make-up for the event, letting her natural beauty shine through and wore her brown hair loose, down her back in soft, bouncy curls.

After meeting with younger participants and partaking in the 1851 Trust’s activities to promote marine sustainability, the sporty royal swapped her nautical stripes for an official GBR wetsuit and matching grey cap as she joined Sir Ainslie and the rest of the Great Britain Crew in their catamaran for a friendly “Commonwealth Race” against Team New Zealand.

This isn’t the first time Kate has taken to the high seas, the royal is a talented sailor having crewed a yacht on a round-the-world trip during her gap year and has even competed in a few sailing racers during other royal engagements.

Prior to the pandemic, in 2019, the Duchess and her husband, Prince William, faced off in the King’s Cup Sailing charity race.

William and Kate have been passing their love for sports onto their children, taking their eldest son, Prince George, 9, to his first Wimbledon match and having Princess Charlotte, 7, join her dad in wishing the England women’s soccer team good luck against Germany in the Euro 2022 final match.

While both Kate and William share a love for many sports, a source close to the Cambridges, told Vanity Fair that since the pandemic the Cambridges have become a sailing family.

“They are very much a family of sailors now,” the source told the outlet. “They have enjoyed some wonderful time on the coast this summer sailing and showing the children how to steer and sail a boat.

“They love the water and the two eldest are good swimmers and had no qualms about jumping into the sea even if it was a bit fresh.”
