From creating a woodland garden to helping a Scout troupe construct a shelter, the Duchess of Cambridge has proven she isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty over the years, and Catherine took things one step further on Tuesday as she tried her hand at sheep shearing.

The mother-of-three stepped out in the Lake District with her husband Prince William this week, where the royal couple helped a farmer remove the coat from two of his Herdwick and Swaledale sheep.

Catherine dressed casually in a pair of black skinny jeans, walking boots and a practical khaki jacket for the occasion, as the royal pair battled the rain in Cumbria. She wore her long brown locks tied back in an elaborate pony tail and kept her make-up to a minimum, sticking to neutral tones.

The duchess could be seen laughing apprehensively as she took the clippers to the farm animal as it kicked its legs in a bid to escape her hold, in video footage shared by Kensington Palace on their official social media accounts.

But the cool duchess continued with the task at hand, under the watchful eye of farmers Chris Brown and his son Jimmy in Lake Ullswater, and successfully sheared her very first sheep.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also spent time learning how to dry stone wall at Deepdale Hall Farm, as well as joining the family as they herded their flock of sheep.

Catherine and William were not joined by their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for the occasion, however the duchess did tell locals about the kids’ love for the picturesque area in the north west of England.

“She said that her children love coming here and walking in the fells. She told us how nice the Lake District was and how lucky we were to live so close to the mountains.”

The engagement is a far cry from the duke and duchess’ most recent outings, as the couple both stepped out at the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony which took place in London on Saturday.

Catherine looked incredible for the special occasion, which is held in honour of Her Majesty the Queen’s official birthday as monarch and features military displays, including a flypast by the RAF.

However all eyes were on 13-month-old Prince Louis, who made his debut on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for his great-grandmother’s birthday, even treating fans to a royal wave.
