Despite their public displays of propriety and decorum, Prince William and Princess Catherine share a “wicked sense of humour” in private, according to a close friend of Mike Tindall.

Former England Rugby player James Haskell made the revelation while joining Tindall, 46 on Good Morning Britain to discuss their podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby.

Tindall shares a close relationship with William and Catherine as does his wife Zara, who is Prince William’s older cousin through his aunt Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.

Haskell opened up about his experience with the Prince and Princess of Wales and said it was one of the few chances people get to see the couple at their most relaxed.

“That podcast was brilliant because we see them at their best, obviously they have a wicked sense of humour, in this country in particularly we obviously put people on a pedestal, but they are a regular family, an incredible family they do a lot for this country but a regular family,” he said.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were invited on a special episode of the sports-focused podcast which was recorded at Windsor Castle in September 2023.

During the podcast, Haskell prodded the pair, claiming Tindall compared Catherine to Monica from Friends, and added, “if you guys play table tennis it will go on for hours and hours, and be like, double or quits.”

While Catherine denied she was “super competitive” and claimed to not know “where this has come from”, the 42-year-old Princess did admit she and William never finished a round of tennis as it became a “mental challenge” between the two of them.

Tindall has secured a close bond with the Royal Family and recently revealed the nicknames he and Zara have for members of the The Firm.

While speaking to Rugby legend Rob Burrow, on an episode of the BBC podcast Seven: Rob Burrow, Tindall unveiled his amusing moniker for the Prince of Wales, none other than ‘One Pint Willy’.

The reason? According to Mike, it’s a nod to Prince William’s not-so-stellar reputation as a drinker.

“The Prince of Wales is known to me as ‘One Pint Willy’ because he’s not the best of drinkers,” he revealed.
