Queen gives Prince Philip very special anniversary gift

Share:
The Queen and Prince Philip have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

When it comes to giving gifts, the Queen sure knows how to choose something special.

In celebration of her 70th wedding anniversary with Prince Philip, the Queen has appointed her husband Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO), honouring him for “services to the sovereign”, reports The Telegraph.

The generous gift is regarded as The Queen’s formal recognition of Philip’s devotion to her both privately and publicly throughout their marriage.

The Duke of Edinburgh is the longest serving royal consort and has dedicated his life to his royal duties.

The prince gave up a promising navy career when he married the Queen and has spent much of his life supporting her in her role.

Despite the enormity of their record-breaking anniversary, the Queen and Philip has chosen to celebrate the occasion in private with the rest of the royal family.

The couple’s children and grandchildren were invited to an intimate gathering at Windsor Castle on Monday night to toast to the happy couple and no doubt share a few tales of happy memories over the years.

The Palace also released a series of portraits of the Queen and Prince Philip, taken in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle in early November.

The photos show a the smiling couple standing side by side, just as they have done for 70 years, still looking as in love as the day they said ‘I do’.
