Queen Camilla has been forced to cancel her upcoming engagements after being struck down by a chest infection, Buckingham Palace announced.
The 77-year-old wife of King Charles III will rest at home for now with no further updates provided on her condition or when she is likely to return to official duties.
“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” a palace spokesperson said.
“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”
The illness will mean Camilla will miss this year’s Field of Remembrance event at London’s Westminster Abbey and a reception for Olympic and Paralympic medal winners from this year’s Paris Games.
“She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” a palace spokesperson said.
Camilla’s recent health woes come after what has been a challenging time for the British Royal Family. Early into King Charles’ reign, the 75-year-old monarch was diagnosed with cancer, followed shortly by Princess Catherine’s own cancer battle.
The King is still undergoing treatment for cancer which has forced him him to cut back on some of his engagements although he recently travelled with Camilla to Australia and Samoa as part of a royal tour of the region.
Meanwhile, Princess Catherine is making steady progress with her health journey and is slowly returning to official duties.
Her brother, James Middleton, brought joy to royal watchers during a recent appearance on USA Today, where he shared a brief but positive health update about his sister.
“She’s doing ok,” he shared.
“It’s not for me to share on her behalf, you know, how everything’s going. But she’s getting all the right support and focus that she needs. And like anything, it takes time to process.”
