Patti Newton and her beloved husband Bert have become grandparents again after their daughter Lauren gave birth to a baby girl, and the pair couldn’t be anymore smitten with the new addition to their family.

The 73-year-old Aussie icon shared the exciting news on social media on Thursday afternoon, congratulating her daughter and son-in-law Matt Welsh on the arrival of their baby girl. Patti uploaded an adorable snap of her sleeping granddaughter and revealed her unique name, Perla Dolly.

She wrote: “Bert and I are so excited to have Perla home at last. Perla means precious and Dolly was my Nanna’s name. Very lucky Poppy and Nana.”

Fans were quick to congratulate the Australian TV couple, with one writing: “Congratulations Nana and Poppy! Such a divine name!”

Another added: “How beautiful to have another gorgeous grandchild.”

And a third wrote: “Congratulations to you and Bert on the arrival of another beautiful grandchild.”

Lauren and her former swimmer husband already share sons Sam, 10, and Monty, two, as well as daughters Eva, nine, and Lola, six. The new mum also shared an image of her adorable brood online, which she captioned: “Then there were 5! Welcome to our beautiful Perla Dolly Newton Welsh. We are all thrilled and she really is a doll.”

Patti regularly shares videos and pictures of the grandkids with Bert at home, and just last month the 73-year-old took to her Instagram page to share a loving moment between her husband and their grandson, Monty.

In the photograph, 80-year-old Bert could be seen smiling from ear to ear as he played with little Monty. The former Good Morning Australia host was wearing a festive scarf and Santa hat while Monty was sporting an adorable bow tie.

Patti captioned the photo: “Two beautiful boys.”

Fans were quick to praise the loving photo, with one writing: “Two peas in a pod…gorgeous.”

While another added: “Australian icon and his mini me.”

It comes after news broke that Patti will soon be returning to the small screen in a very special role.

The entertainment legend is set to join the cast of Neighbours for the special 8,000th episode of the long-running soap. She’ll be playing Val Grundy who, according to the Neighbours Facebook page, is Ramsay Street’s oldest resident. Fans will get to catch Patti in action when she makes her Neighbours debut on Friday evening.

The likes of Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Margot Robbie and Alan Dale got their big break on Neighbours, but it turns out Patti won’t be sticking around for long. In fact, she’s going to be killed off on her very first episode.

While she’s never actually appeared on screen in the show’s 33-year history, viewers will discover that Patti’s character has lived on the iconic cul-de-sac for decades. According to UK entertainment website Digital Spy, Val is shy, reclusive and keeps out of the shenanigans that other characters find themselves in on a daily basis.

She will be spotted for the first time saying hello to Toadie Rebecchi (played by Ryan Moloney) and Piper Willis (played by Mavournee Hazel), before dying alone in her home.
