Thursday morning’s episode of Sunrise saw presenter David ‘Kochie’ Koch ask a rather funny question, that left co-host, Natalie Barr, in hysterics. The pair were in the middle of an interview with Matt Hart, a spokesperson for lottery company The Lott, in regards to the company’s upcoming $80 million dollar jackpot being drawn on Thursday evening, February 17.

Hart had been explaining that ‘Powerhit’ tickets were the best way to boost a person’s chances of a major win, when Kochie piped in to ask the rather hilarious question.

“That’s the expensive one, but it increases your chances doesn’t it? Because, what’s the ball, blue ball at the end..”

Natalie Barr then replied, “The Powerball?”, looking to a rather lost Kochie.

“That’s why it’s called the Powerball”, she mocked, breaking into a fit of laughter at Kochie’s harmless ignorance.

Kochie then wraps up the interview as Barr continues to laugh, slapping her papers into her face as she feigns shock-horror at her co-hosts blunder.

“All right, thank you Matt, let’s move on,” said Kochie.

“You get to ask some dumb questions sometimes on live TV and that was one of them,” he joked.

According to Hart, there has been 76 Powerball division one wins over the last five years and together they’ve taken home a total of $2.2 billion. He said that people with the first initial ‘D’ have been found to make up 10 per cent of lotto wins.

Entries for the $80 million mega jackpot will close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night, with the official draw called at 8.30pm AEST.

If one individual is to win the mega prize, they will become Powerball’s second, division one winner of 2022 and share the title in holding Australia’s third-largest lottery victory to date.

This isn’t the first time Kochie’s been in headlines recently, with him arching up about blood donations in early February. In 2017, Kochie told reporters that he’d almost been fired by the then-managing director of Seven for being too outspoken.
