In a stunning turn of events, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon due to injury.

The controversial player, known for his explosive on-court antics and powerful game, made the heartbreaking announcement on Monday, July 3, leaving fans and tennis enthusiasts around the world in disbelief.

The 28-year-old has been struggling with a recurring knee injury that has plagued him over the past few months.

“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdaw from Wimbledon this year,” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.

“During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist.

“I tired everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.

“I’ll be back and as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans.”

Fans were quick to rally around Kyrgios, showering him with unwavering support while wishing him a speedy recovery.

Concerns grew for Kyrgios’ chances of competing at Wimbledon after he was forced to withdraw from the prestigious Halle Open recently.

At the time Kyrgios expressed his disappointment at the “very unfortunate news”.

“I won‘t be able to compete at Halle this year,” he said.

“I’m still dealing with a couple of things with my knee. Just trying to give myself the best opportunity to compete at Wimbledon.

“As you all know, that tournament means a lot to me and I just want to do everything right by my body.

“I tried everything here in Halle the last couple of days, but then I had to make the decision to pull out. I want, when I play, to deliver a performance like last year when I was in the semi-finals. But that will really not be possible.”

Without Kyrgios participating in Wimbledon, both fans and players will no doubt feel the absence of his extraordinary and captivating performances on the court.

Tennis enthusiasts will have to wait for another opportunity to witness his explosive talent and larger-than-life personality in action on one of the grandest stages of the sport.
