In news that has sent shockwaves through the entertainment world, beloved comedian Cal Wilson has tragically passed away at the age of 53.
News of her passing has left fans and colleagues alike reeling, as they mourn the loss of a talented and charismatic entertainer whose humour touched the hearts of many.
Wilson’s passing was confirmed by Token Artists management who revealed that she died after a “short illness” with her family by her side.
“We are devastated to share the news that Cal Wilson, the much-loved stand up comedian, writer and actor died today, surrounded by family and friends after a short illness at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. She was 53 years old,” the statement read.
“Cal’s generosity, talent and friendship have been constants in the Australian comedy scene for the last twenty years. Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community.”
Born in Christchurch, New Zealand on October 5, 1970, Wilson began her journey into the world of entertainment when she relocated to Melbourne in 2003 and subsequently starred in the acclaimed sketch show, Skithouse.
Her comedic prowess soon catapulted her into the ranks of Australia’s most celebrated comedians, gracing popular shows like Good News Week, Would I Lie To You?, and even headlining her own stand-up special on Netflix.
Wilson left a considerable mark on the Melbourne Comedy Festival with an incredible 14 appearances to her name and even serving as a distinguished board member.
Most recently, she charmed audiences as the co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off for Foxtel, a project she was actively engaged in when she was initially hospitalised.
Her versatility shone through as she hosted ABC’s Sleuth 101, along with an impressive repertoire of appearances on shows such as The Project, Celebrity Name Game, Show Me the Movie!, Would I Lie to You? Australia, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Hughesy We Have a Problem, Slide Show, Rove Live, Dancing with the Stars, The Wedge, and Kitty Is Not a Cat.
In her most recent venture, Wilson took the helm in presenting Who The Bloody Hell Are We? for SBS.

Wilson is survived by her husband Chris and son Digby.
